    Article 58 of the Indian Constitution says that the presidential candidate should be the

  • Citizen of India.
  • He should have completed 35 years of age
  • He should be qualified for election as a member of the Lok Sabha.
  • He should not hold any office of profit under the Union or state government or any local authority or any other public authority.A sitting President or Vice-President of the Union, the Governor of any
    state and a minister of the Union or any state is not deemed to hold any
    office of profit and then only he QUALIFIED FOR presidential Election.
  • President must be subscribed by at least 50 electors as proposers and 50 electors as seconders and every candidates has to make security deposit of Rs 15,000 in RBI(Reserve Bank of India.)

    For the election of Vice-President, a person should have the
    following qualifications such as :

  • 1. He should be a citizen of India.
  • 2. He should have completed 35 years of age.
  • 3. He should be qualified for election of the Rajya Sabha memebrs.
  • 4. He should not hold any office of profit under Union or States or Local Authority or Public Authority.
  • Selection Process of the Vice President

  • The nomination of candidates for the office of a Vice President must be subscribed by atleast 20 electors (Members of Parliament) who act as proposers, and 20 electors who act as seconders then only he/she will be the candidates for vice president election .
    Each and every candidate must deposit a total of Rs 15,000 to the RBI(Reserve Bank of India), as part of the nomination process.
